There are many more affiliate marketers jumping into the affiliate marketing scene each and everyday.
Some pick up this opportunity thinking that it’s an easy way of making money online, while many know that it’s an open market where lots of “big dogs” roam. A rather free-for-all competition I would say.
Many are earning good money while most of the others barely have a taste of the pie. Promoting products time after time just to see no sales end of the month. How awful and lousy that feeling can be..
Frankly, I do understand what the feeling is.. I’ve been there, and done that..
Like what I said in my title of this post “Affiliate Marketing can be a waste of time” unless you know what to do and doing it well.
Why is that so?
Most of the affiliate marketers barely learn enough of the basic fundamentals before they dived into it and try to promote madly.
Promotion Ads posted all over their blogs/websites regardless of irrelevancy, money spent and wasted on ppc advertising without proper testing and not driving the targeted traffic.
Things that most affiliate marketers barely do
- Concentrate on a specific niche market-Don’t go around promoting different types of products to your customers unless you wanna piss them off.
- Building up rapport-Most people buy from people they trust. Nobody will want to buy what you recommend if they can’t trust you enough.
- Presell and not Oversell-Think as a customer, sell them the real benefits but not dishonest claims.
- Test and track your conversions-Will you spend $2 per click for an ad or $0.20 per click? In order to stay in the game, you have to play the game well.
- Adventurous is a killer-Don’t ever waste time and find undiscovered niches which are not proven to bring you conversions. They are hidden for a good reason.
- Research with survey-You will never know what your list of customers want or need if you don’t ask.
So do you think affiliate marketing can be a waste of time? Only time will tell..
Big players play their game well..

Great article! I’ve added some ads to my blog, and have made about $8 total so far (haha), but I’m still trying to get traffic and get indexed by Google, so it’s hard to measure right now.
Thanks for the tips!

Affiliate marketing CAN be a waste of time if you just throw up a bunch of affiliate links and then sit back and wait for the checks to come rolling in. But most people don’t want to put in the work needed to be successful. Those who do realize that affiliate marketing can be extremely profitable.

Hey Mike,
Totally agree with you on that. Most of them didn’t try hard enough and they gave up easily as well.

making money only thru blog is very tough , if one has to make really big money then he should spend some bugs at AdWords and try to steal some money thru affiliate marketing.

One more reason why many new affiliate marketers fail is the illusion of “easyness”. I mean, look at all those sales pages in the MMO niche, they claim that it’s easy, as 1,2,3, while most of us know it’s not true, and there is hard work involved.
People should get this illusion of “easy millions” off their minds.

Success can never be reached without any hard work.

Most people who fail think it’s as easy as setting up a site or blog and throwing up a bunch of ads. My tips for affiliate marketing follow those for discovering the best niche for you – you must be knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. People will follow you if you can bring excitement and freshness to a topic you both care about. And it’s a good idea to keep ads to a minimum until you have a following that will support you. Also keep in mind that as people have been online longer and learn more about the Internet, ad blindness increases and so does the use of ad blockers. It’s your job to find ethical ways around that without losing your followers.
